Be Real ~ My Personal Journey

Be RealWarning: vulnerable moment coming!  I would love for people to think that I have always eaten healthy and that I have never struggled with my weight, but unfortunately, that is far from the truth. If you are a close family or friend of mine you probably know some of the struggles that I have dealt with over the years with fitness and nutrition; however, I rarely ever share my full story for everyone to read.  So, get ready because I have felt compelled to share some of my struggles today AND what has helped me to overcome them.

To give you a little history about myself, I did not grow up eating healthy…and I ate a lot of white stuff (fluffy white bread, pasta, rice, and sugar).  I was not concerned about eating healthy and would sometimes sit down and eat almost a full bag of Doritos ~yikes!  Plus, the “vegetables” that I typically ate were canned corn and peas (creamed peas), which are more starchy than veggies…oh, and occasionally I had some canned carrots and iceberg lettuce with high fat dressings.  So, as you can see I was NOT the model of healthy nutrition.  Of course, I also struggled with maintaining a weight that I felt comfortable with and tended to try to out-exercise my bad habits…but it wasn’t real effective.  Honestly, I came from a family of large women, and I knew that I didn’t want to end up that way, but I truly did not know how to avoid it.

Fast-forward to today, I have had my ups and downs over the years and even have struggled with hypothyroidism due to having my thyroid removed over 13 years ago, but through the years I have learned A LOT and have changed my eating habits and exercise considerably.  Believe it or not, I actually workout less than I used to because I have learned the secret to staying healthy and appropriately managing my weight.  So, do you want to know my secret to keeping the weight off…even when I am hypothyroid?  The biggest key is proper nutrition and portion control.

For instance, I would like to give you an example from a year ago when I was struggling again with some hypothyroid symptoms while waiting on my doctor to adjust my medicine...and get me on the proper dose.  For those of you who suffer from hypothyroidism, you understand how easily one can put on weight when you are hypothyroid…and even more difficult to lose those pounds that you put on.  So, despite being very active due to training for a Market To Market Relay race, I was having trouble keeping weight off even though I wasn’t eating any differently than I had prior to my training, etc.  Therefore, after completing my training and race I was able to focus more on my nutrition, so I decided to do another round of the 21 Day Fix portion control eating plan along with my daily dose of dense nutrition of Shakeology.  I followed the maintenance plan because despite having put on five pounds or so I did’t necessarily need to lose weight, I was just trying to prevent myself from continuing to put on more weight until my thyroid levels were back to normal.  So, I was doing good for the first four days…and even lost a pound, but then on day 5 I decided to throw in a couple of extra snacks…and guess what happened?!  That pound that I had taken off came right back (along with that awful bloated feeling)!!!  So, my point is this:  If you are suffering from hypothyroidism and feel like you have no hope for losing weight, know that there IS hope.  However, it will require some diligence in following a specific plan and not deviating from it.  For me, that plan is the 21 Day Fix with Shakeology.  For you, it may be different; however, I know that this plan works for me and many others.

Therefore, if you struggle with thyroid issues and feel like nothing you do seems to help with losing weight, I would encourage you to join me for 21 days and see what happens.  If you are like me and many others you will find that even the Shakeology alone will help increase your energy and help with regularity issues.  So, I invite you to join me as we start another round of the 21 Day Fix at the end of this month/beginning of next month.  We have a great support network and would love for you to join us on the journey.   Please feel free to contact me with any questions or look for me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or Pinterest.   If you struggle like I have and are ready to get your life back, I am ready to help!

NOTE:  There are several options for the 21 Day Fix that you can find HERE.  Plus, the 21 Day Fix Challenge Packs are on sale this month.
