Essential Oils 101

If you know me, or have read my book, Ditch the Junk, Find Your Spunk, you know that I am all about ditching the endocrine disruptors. Having lived almost 17 years without a thyroid, I am passionate about taking care of my endocrine system and avoiding anything that will throw my system out-of-whack! Therefore, when I was introduced to Young Living's essential oils, supplements, makeup, and personal care products...and learned about their quality AND saw for myself how effective they were for supporting my body systems (without all of the junk), I knew I had to share it with you. So, if you want to learn how to ditch all of the yucky, harmful chemicals in your everyday products, take a moment to read through Essential Oils 101. Healthcare vs sick care

These chemicals from detergents get stuck in our clothes, rubbing against our skin all day long, absorbing into our bodies and causing problems.

How do I use oils?

SAFETY FIRST

• Please dilute your oils.
• Do not put them in your eyes or ears. 
• Follow directions on labels. 

*Once you get your own starter kit, your sponsor or I will connect with you and go over safety tips and suggestions in more detail! 

The solid labels have aromatic and topical directions on them.

1. Topically - Apply on your skin. Dilute with a carrier oil like coconut oil or grapeseed oil. They are quickly absorbed and effective.

*Citrus oils can cause photosensitivity. Avoid direct sunlight to areas where citrus oils have been applied for 12 hours. 

2. Aromatically - Use in the diffuser or by inhaling from diffuser jewelry or just put some on your hands.

3. Internally  -Young Living oils are safe to ingest. The labels that are white are from their vitality line and have dietary instructions on them.

* NOTE: Oils in the regular bottles are the same as the vitality bottles. For Example: Peppermint oil from the regular line and Peppermint oil from the vitality line have different labels (per FDA rules) but are the SAME OIL.

Lemon Vitality 

Put a drop of lemon in your water for a hint of flavor and a gentle detox. 

This oil supports your detox organs and can also help with an afternoon energy boost. 

*FUN FACT: Fruit juices contain acids that lower the pH in your mouth, which can cause acid erosion to tooth enamel over time. Young Living citrus essential oils do not lower the pH like fruit juices due to no citric acid and, therefore, are less likely to cause acid erosion to enamel. 

SAFETY AND USAGE: When adding Lemon Vitality to food or beverage, use glass, stainless steel, or ceramic dishes. It will disintegrate plastic and you don’t want to ingest that.

Peppermint Vitality 

This oil is perfect for focus in the office or concentration during study time.

An afternoon pick-me-up perfect for mom.

Make a snack-time tea to curb your appetite.

Apply a few drops to a capsule to help support occasional nausea and a healthy digestive system. 

Put a drop in your water bottle before exercise to support your work out. 

Put five drops in your next batch of brownies and everyone will come back for seconds. #hitoftheparty

Immune Boosting Tea:

• 1 drop Peppermint Vitality
• 1 drop Lemon Vitality
• 1 drop Thieves Vitality
• 1 tsp raw honey

Stir into 16 - 24 oz warm/hot (drinkable temp) water and drink.

Lavender

Imagine you're sitting in a SPA, The music is a gentle instrumental piece. The lights are dim. You put your feet up and rest your head back. Take a big inhale and smell the Lavender in the air as it swirls around in your lungs. As you breathe out, a sense of peace comes over you and the weight is lifted off your shoulders. 

With a bottle of Lavender and a diffuser, you can turn your bedroom into a quiet tranquil SPA every night. 

With a diffuser and Lavender oil, you can experience this SPA moment every night. 

EASY EVERYDAY USES:

Before bed, rub a few drops into your palms, over the pillow, the back of your neck, and the bottoms of feet.

Combine two drops each of Lavender, Frankincense, and Stress Away into a cup of bath salts for a keep calm bath combo.

Put 4-8 drops in your diffuser to unwind after a long day. Use every night (or during nap time) to promote a restful night's sleep, health, love, peace, and a general sense of wellbeing.

DiGize Vitality

DiGize Vitality is everyone’s favorite because it works so well. It’s a blend of Tarragon, Ginger, Peppermint, Juniper, Fennel, Lemongrass, Anise, and Patchouli, which is the perfect partner to any meal. 

Combine Peppermint Vitality and DiGize Vitality daily, to provide amazing digestive support. You are so lucky to get these digestive powerhouses in your starter kit. Never leave home (or the country) without these two. 

Frankincense

Does anyone here love science? Frankincense contains 8% sesquiterpenes and 78% monoterpenes, which are known to be calming. It is grounding, and great for meditation and balancing emotions. It is also amazing for your skin to help create a youthful appearance. 

Combine a drop of Frankincense and Lavender in your daily moisturizer and you will be amazed at the appearance of your skin. 

PanAway 

Do you dread going to the gym because you know that moving the next day might be a struggle?

This blend is perfect for your gym bag. A blend of Wintergreen, Helichrysum, Clove & Peppermint make working out a little more bearable. Apply a few drops to lotion or coconut oil and apply to muscles and joints pre and post-exercise. Heading out for a hike or anticipating some snow shoveling this winter? Keep this one handy to keep your joints happy. 

Slept funny or have growing kids? Put a few drops in a container with a roller top for easy application to your neck or kids' arms and legs when needed. 

Combine with Copaiba to enhance the properties or Peppermint to give an extra tingly sensation.

Raven™

This a powerful blend of Ravintsara, Lemon, Wintergreen, Peppermint, and Eucalyptus Radiata.

Lemon prompts physical energy, and is great over lungs.

Wintergreen contains 99% methyl salicylate which makes it great to apply to chest and joints pre or post workout.

Ravintsara is a cross between clove and nutmeg. Great for energy.

Peppermint is soothing and cooling.

Eucalyptus Radiata gives you a spa-like experience when used or diffused.

Application: Dilute one to two drops and apply to reflex points of the body. Apply topically to lungs and throat. Diffuse or put on your pillow at night.

 Companion Oils: Melrose, RC, Thieves.

Valor

A deep blue blend of Black Spruce, Camphor, Blue tansy, Frankincense, and Geranium that smells amazing. It's not too sweet or overpowering. Many inhale or wear it to boost their courage, confidence, and self-esteem.

Combine a drop with Peace and Calming to your wrists to provide the perfect combo to calm your nerves and feel confident to take on any task.

Many people use Valor before a presentation, going to an event, or engaging in nerve-racking activities like flying, or every day to feel confident in your own skin. 

This is also great for kids who are worried about attending school, playdates, or being around others. Make them a roll-on they can use as their superhero courage juice. Combine 5 drops of Valor with a carrier oil of choice in a 10 ml bottle with a roll-on top. 

Peace and Calming 

Peace & Calming is a gentle, sweet blend of Ylang Ylang, Orange, Tangerine, Patchouli, and Blue tansy and is one of Young Living’s most popular essential oil blends.

Apply to wrists and inhale, or diffuse it when you are feeling on edge. Perfect to use during your children’s bedtime and for yourself after the house has settled down.

Thieves Vitality

Thieves Vitality is another GREAT one to use regularly for immune support. It smells amazing, like cinnamon and clove with a hint of lemon, and works wonders. I use it regularly with my oils and products but if I start feeling a little drained, I double up on my Thieves and NingXia Red. I drink a wellness tea, the one mentioned in the Peppermint Vitality post, and I feel as good as new. Who has time to be down for the count? #Notme! The ability to feel 100% has been a game changer in our house.

This one does exactly what you think it does and we all need it. 

A blend of Copaiba, Lime, Cedarwood, Vanilla, Ocotea, and Lavender, gives it a sweet vanilla citrus scent. 

Take the little roller top from your kit and put it on this one to make a convenient roller bottle. Keep it in your purse, car, office, diaper bag, or anywhere else you find yourself needing a little calming. 

NingXia Red

This class wouldn't be complete without talking about one of our most beloved products. NingXia Red is 25% NingXia Wolfberry puree, which is a wellness-supporting superfruit with an incredibly high antioxidant rating. This is much higher than other fruits, like blueberries. Antioxidants make for an unfriendly environment for free radicals. If you don't know the effects free radicals have on your body, you should google it.
